1

Integral Mission/

Integral Soul

There are many different motivations for joining God in his mission to the world and its people. Some motivations are healthier than others. David Alvarez (Communities Pastor, The River) has the unique role of someone deeply experienced in ministries of compassion while being significantly gifted in the ministry of healing. Come hear David’s perspective on wholeness, right motivation and the place of healing ministry alongside the ministries of mercy and justice.

Sub-urban disciples in an  urban church

How is it that faithful residents of the suburbs can connect with urban churches (like The River)? What are the essential elements of the well-formed suburban discipleship? This workshop will address these questions and offer clear next steps.

The well-formed disciple

For generations in the church there has been a lot of talk about what it means to be a disciple – a maturing student of the way of Jesus. Brian McLaren has worked hard to articulate a new perspective on what this looks like. Come hear Brian talk about what the journey of discipleship looks like.

Discipleship through Church Partnership:  Encouragement with, for and from the Local Church

This workshop will look at the variety of ways international holistic ministry shows itself to be a discipleship tool, not simply for those being ministered to, but also to those ministering.  Come hear about the importance of reciprocity and empowerment in mission efforts.

Worship and Integral Mission

What is the connection between worship and mission? How do we worship a full picture of who God is? How does worship affect a disciple’s image of God? These vital questions will be addressed and a rubric presented for what balanced worship can look like.

The Jesus DOJO: Following Jesus as a Way of Life

A dojo is literally a place where you learn the way- and Jesus invites us to follow him as a way of life.  The best context for formation as apprentices of Jesus may be more like a karate studio than a classroom. In this workshop we will explore intentional communal practices that are helpful to integrating the message and teachings of Jesus into our everyday lives.

Mark Scandrette works with ReIMAGINE in San Francisco and is the author of

the forthcoming book: SOUL GRAFFITI: Making a Life in the Way of Jesus.

Oh the wonderful cross… Wonderful, significant… but what does it mean?

“How does redemption really work? Is the cross an exercise of God’s punishment? What is the underlying saving significance of the cross?” If you (like so many of us) struggle in answering any of these questions, this seminar is for you. Mark Baker has spent years thinking and teaching about redemption images in scripture. True worship stems from an understanding of the redeeming work of God in Christ. Come deepen your understanding of that work.

Justification by Faith and Integral Mission

Isn’t The Gospel really God’s promise to individuals about their future? Doesn’t Paul say something about justification being by faith? Isn’t faith a private concern? Actually, it isn’t. Come find out why The Gospel requires a present (as opposed to only future), community (as opposed to only individual) and ethical (as opposed to only spiritual) orientation. This seminar will deal with the book of Galatians – and particularly chapter 2:11-16.

Latin-American Theology for everyone

For many years now, the theology written by Latin Americans in Latin America has been some of the more engaging work done anywhere in the world. Come hear Dr. Rene Padilla, one of Latin American Theology’s elder statesmen talk about how and why these important contributions should be more broadly read.

Note, this seminar includes some very interesting pre-course reading. Please view and print these two documents (we will also have copies available at registration on friday evening):

And Who Is My Neighbor?

Don got immersed in post-modern ministry decades before it was fashionable. Mission was at the heart of it. He asserts that a church of any size can become the best of neighbors, friends and family with the poorest of churches. Based on his experience in Haiti, Don's practical seminar will answer questions like: How do you get the money where it needs to go? How do you develop missional relationships that run both ways? What do we desperately need to learn from a third world church?

Connecting the Church – Virtually and Actually

Technology is both a blessing and a curse in our age. Though it presents itself as a servant, it can sometimes become our master. But what are the ways it can be harnessed for the good of the church? How can technology be used appropriately to foster relationship and connection? Cary, Joe and Carol will demonstrate two recent web-based innovations brimming with promise. Come gain a vision for technology brought into service in God’s Kingdom.
